At the ripe age of 47, I decided to donate my kidney to Andi Ribera. Our journey started as a simple Facebook message from her sister: “I just saw your post on back to life. My baby sister Andi Ribera is in need of a kidney transplant. She is 18 and has her whole life ahead of her. She has been sick for about 2 years. Please write me back if you’re still interested in donating.” That was in 2013! After a few bumps in the road, I was able to donate at Tulane Medical Center in May of 2015.
Andi and I are close and remain in touch. Post-transplant I enjoy yoga, eating right and attending outdoor rock festivals. Andi has started her first job and will be attending college. She is an inspiration to me!
The proof is in the pictures — both of you look healthy and happy! Way to go, Christine, and thanks for sharing the story with us.
Thank you Tom for your kind words. It was such an awesome journey in my life.
Fantastic thing to do Christine, and what a wonderful person your kidney went to. The lovely Ms Rib!!!
Thank you Rob – I couldn’t agree more !
You have been an inspiration to me. I have a friend who is in need of a kidney. I spoke with AndI Ribera and I contacted the number that was given 4 her transplant. I received the package of information that I have to go through and fill out. I will be going to my primary care physician Thursday and we’ll talk to her extensively about my being able to donate.
Sonia I am so happy that your friend has a friend such as yourself…God Bless and best of luck – any questions feel free to ask!
I have a friend that’s in renal failure and just received my donor package in the mail yesterday. I’ve decided to do a paired if not a matched with him.Your’s and other’s stories reaffirm my desire to move forward. Thank you for sharing…….Wish us luck!
