My name is Fred Ewashko. I’m 69. I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I donated my kidney to my brother Steve Ewashko, 71, at the University of Alberta Hospital. The transplant took place on August 6, 1977. We just celebrated our 39th anniversary of me saving my brother’s life.
I have 3 children: Peter, Brandy-Jo and Jesse, and one grandson, Kaleb. I have lived a great and full life with my wife Judy and children and grandson. I will be celebrating my 70th birthday on September 14. I have enjoyed a full life with one kidney and brother Steve has a full life as well with his wife Jean.
Thirty-nine years — what a success story that is! I can’t help but think that some of what the doctors learned from the way you and Steve thrived following surgery has been applied to many, many patients since. In that regard, you’re responsible for saving more lives than just your brother’s. Congratulations to you both.
Thank you so much for the kind words Tom …
Words cannot describe how proud i am of my Papa Fred. He is a perfect example of how a truly caring and humble human being is suppose to be.
If i could be one thing to this world it would be the leave an in print like my Father has in people’s lives.
From donating his Kidney.. to being a regular Blood donor for the Red Cross for more than 25 Years. And that’s not all.
Thru out my entire life and Father and Mother have taken in dozens upon dozens of people hard on their luck with no where to live. They always have a place to call home with the Ewashko’s.
I feel so blessed that his generous heart and soul have been passed down to us children.
I love both of my Brother’s and i am very proud of the Men they are today..
None of us kids would be who we are today without the love and guidance of our amazing Father Fred.
We Love you Dad! And we couldn’t be any prouder of our heritage and the AMAZING man we get the privilege of calling our Father! xoxoxox
