On July 19, 2013, just before my 30th birthday, I donated my left kidney to a toddler named Teddy.
My surgery and r
ecovery went even better than expected, and I’ve been rocking one kidney for a year now. I’ve been chasing my two sons around, watching gymnastics practices, cheering at t-ball games, going on bike rides, playing at playgrounds, and swimming. I’ve been camping with the family and going on dates with my husband. I’ve been building and growing my own business, and volunteering for several organizations.
I ran an obstacle race three months after surgery, and have been pushing, pulling, and lifting heavy weights. I joined a novice crew team this summer, and I just signed up and have been training for my first CrossFit competition. I can say with confidence that I’m much stronger than I was before my donation; having one kidney has not slowed me down one bit.
What an inspirational story – you sure are rocking one kidney! And how amazing to donate to little Teddy! Your blog is wonderful too. Thanks so much for sharing, Tiffany! Rock on!
I am going in on Monday to get test done to see if I am a match for a young boy who needs a kidney. I am very nervous bc I have a 3 and 5 year old and if I am a match I am afraid of the recovery. I also teach Spin classes. How long did it take you to recover? Were you allowed to drive? I had 2 c-sections and a hernia operation so I know the pain. I would love to hear from you. Thank you
